BIOGRAPHY
Mrs. L. Marie Hawkins Haskins, 62, of
3520 Mayfair St. Apt. 201, Durham, NC
departed this life on Wednesday, June 22,
2005 at Duke University Medical Center.
Marie was born on October 7, 1942 in
Henderson, North Carolina to the late
Lafayette Hawkins and Gracie Gregory
Hawkins. She was employed as a Senoir Buyer
for Solectron Computer Company.
In addition to serving the NCCU, CIAA and several high school athletics programs as a
volunteer, or in her official capacity as a
member and Executive Director of the NCCU
Eagle Club, Marie also tirelessly served her
community via many humanitarian, charitable
and philanthropic service projects, as the
president of the
1300 Social Club.
She leaves to cherish her memory and mourn
her loss, her loving husband, William T.
Haskins, Jr., of the home; one sister,
Ernestine Skinner, of Henderson, NC; one
brother, Thaddeus Hawkins, of Philadelphia,
PA and a host of other loving family and
friends.
RESOLUTION
WHEREAS: Marie Haskins was dedicated
and loyal to the North Carolina Central
University athletics program, which she
supported financially and with love for all
athletes; and
WHEREAS: Marie Haskins was a beloved
and respected Life Member of the North
Carolina Central University Educational
Advancement Foundation, Inc. (the Eagle
Club) for nearly twenty years; and
WHEREAS: She served as Chair of the
Membership Committee, member of the Ticket
Committee, and as Executive Director of the
club with distinction; and
WHEREAS: She was instrumental in
significantly increasing the membership of
the Club and was committed to making the
Club a national model for the support of
student-athletes both on and off the playing
field; and
WHEREAS: Her commitment extended
beyond North Carolina Central University to
the Central Intercollegiate Athletic
Association and to many high school
programs:
BE IT RESOLVED: That the North
Carolina Central University Eagle Club
acknowledges the wisdom and goodness of God
and thanks Him for the life of Marie
Haskins;
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED: That the
Eagle Club shall honor her memory by placing
this resolution in its permanent records and
presenting a copy to her family in
appreciation of her life and service to the
North Carolina Central University Eagle
Club.
